This section assumes you have a basic user's knowledge of your computer's operating system. Plain text ebooks are easy to download and read:
1 Choose a book from the menu.
2 Begin downloading the ebook by clicking on its title.
3 You may be asked if you want to save the file to disk. You can choose the location by using the browse function of the save dialogue. Depending on your operating system and its configuration this file may be listed with a .zip extension.
4 Wait for the download to finish. If you have a broadband connection this should happen within seconds but can take much longer if your internet connection is slow and the ebook you've selected is large (the file sizes appear next to the titles).
5 Unzip the file using any standard zip utility (ebooks are usually compressed or zipped because this makes them about one third their normal size and causes them to dowload three times faster).
If you need an unzip utility, try freezip, pkware or winzip.
6 After unzipping, a plain text file will appear at the same location as the original zipped file. Depending on your operating system and its configuration this file may be listed with a .txt extension and/or displayed with a notepad type icon.
7 Open the text file in any word processor or text reader that is capable of reading large files (most are, Windows Notepad is not).
To save valuable resources (ink, paper and time) you might want to avoid printing ebooks on a printer, although there's no reason why you can't if you must. As an alternative try reading the book at your monitor. To reduce eye strain, you might experiment with the brightness and contrast settings. You may also enjoy reading the ebook on a laptop, palm device or book reader.
